Avril passionately endorses the mission and message of TED: the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and, ultimately, the world. Being a part of the team to create this opportunity in Mackay is a special opportunity she does not take lightly. Avril is an advocate for fact over fiction, and TEDX presents itself as the perfect platform to help achieve this. Her favourite TED Talk is The best stats you’ve ever seen: You’ve never seen data presented like this. With the drama and urgency of a sportscaster, statistics guru Hans Rosling debunks myths about the so-called “developing world.”

TED talks have been inspiring people across the globe for years. These talks take often simple ideas, turn them around and provided inspiration to people for their daily lives. Julie has always been passionate about this community and she knows that we have innovative, creative, and inspirational people who have some fantastic ideas and this is an opportunity to showcase them. With her background in Local Government and her involvement in many groups, Julie has met many people in Mackay that have that ability to inspire but we don’t often hear from them. So this is our first step into TEDx and it’s an opportunity for Mackay to shine.
